WIPO-Kyrgyzstan National Seminar on Enforcement Measures under the TRIPS Agreement was organised on April 18-19, 2000 in Bishkek.

At the seminar Mr. Serguei Zotine - WIPO (Geneva) representative made a report on “The TRIPS Agreement: History and Enforcement Provisions” as well as Mr. Roman O. Omorov - Kyrgyzpatent Director made a report on“Intellectual Property System and Current Situation with Regard to Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights in the Kyrgyz Republic”.

Moreover, reports of both Mr. Hans Marshall - Presiding Judge at the Court of Appeal (Munich) on “The Role of the Judiciary in Enforcement of Intellectual property Rights” and Mr. Oleg Ashurkov - Deputy Head of Division, Tariff and Non-ariff Regulation Department, State Customs Commettee of the Russian Federation on “Development of Special Legislation and Organizational Infrastructure in the National Customs System Concerning the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights (The Experience of the Russian Federation) were introduced to the attention of audience.

The second day of the seminar was devoted to the discussions concerning protection and enforcement of trademark rights as well as combatting counterfeiting including the matters on protection and enforcement of copyright, in particular in sound recordings and combatting piracy. In these discussions Mr. Ronald Brohm - Director of European Anti-Counterfeiting Network (Amstelveen), Mr. Alexander Shelemekh - Vice President of Coalition for Intellectual Propety Rights (Moscow), Mrs. Jenish Sargaldakova - Head of Law Division of Kyrgyzpatent (Bishkek), Mr. Anatoly Mordvinov - Deputy Regional Coordinator of International Federation of the Phonographical Industry (Moscow) as well as Ms. Omurgul Balpanova - Head of Intellectual Property Rights Implementation Division (Bishkek) took part. At the same time, representatives of the law enforcement bodies, custom services, judicial system, patent attorneys as well as mass media representatives were presented at the seminar.

Seminar took place at the Conference Hall of “Issuk-Kul” Hotel.
