From November 2 to 5, 1999, eight meeting of Administrative Council of the Eurasian Patent Organization was held in Cholpon- Ata Сity.
The objective of the adoption of Eurasian Patent Convention (EAPC), signed by the heads of governments CIS member countries was strengthening cooperation in the field of inventions protection and creation of intergovernmental system of legal protection acquisition on the base of united patent acting on the territory of contracting states. At present the members of the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO) are: Azerbijian Republic, Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Moldova, Republic of Tadjikistan, Turkmenistan, Russian Federation. Membership in EAPO is opened to all UN Member Countries party to Paris Convention and Patent Cooperation Treaty. Representative body of EAPO is Administrative Council, in which each contracting state represented by the authorized representative with the main activity of administrative tasks execution.
At the eight meeting of Administrative Council were discussed and adopted: annual report on activities in 1998, draft project of the budget on decision on submitting to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) of declaration “On international recognition of the deposit of microorganisms” in accordance with the Budapest Treaty, decision on further improvement of normative acts of the Eurasian Patent Organization. With regard to the expiry of the authority of the Chairman of Eurasian Patent Organization, one of the question was the election of the Chairman of Administrative Council to the next two years, unanimously Professor Roman O. Omorov Director of the State Agency of Intellectual Property under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic was elected.
The next EAPO Administrative Council meetings was planed to carry out in 2000, Dushanbe (Republic of Tadjikistan) and in Moscow.
