Eurasian Patent Information System
(EAPATIS)

INFO

Brief Information about the System

General information

EAPATIS System has been developed by the EAPO to improve effectiveness and quality of patent searches and patent information support of examination of applications for inventions. Since 2000 the system has been in commercial operation at EAPO. In 2003 the access via the Internet to EAPATIS has been provided to the national patent offices of the Member-States of the Eurasian Patent Organization. In 2004-2005 the access to the system has been provided to the patent offices of Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Georgia.

Main characteristics

Over 30 local databases (DB) constantly replenishing are supported in EAPATIS which contained over 29 million descriptions of patent documents by the end of 2006. The scope of patent information provided to users (including full specifications of patent documents for certain DB) is over 1,5 terabytes. The DB contains patent documents from EAPO, WIPO, European Patent Office, US Patent Office, USSR and Russia (since 1924), patent documentation of countries included to "PCT minimum documentation" of various retrospective view as well as patent documentation of national patent offices of CIS countries including EAPO Member-States.

Any subject, number and title searches using logical operators "AND"/"OR" can be conducted.

Metasearch means are realized in external patent databases of intellectual property digital libraries (IPDL) and information systems of free access via the Internet: ESP@CENET, EPOLINE, JOPAL and etc.

As a result the search lists of found patent documents and referral-bibliographical specifications are presented.

Full specifications of patents documents may be obtained by one of the following methods:

  • with CD(DVD)-ROM discs with patent documentation using the specialized software - "patent browser";
  • from external patent DB by means of virtual access.;
  • from EAPATIS server using access to full specifications.

Distinctive features of the system

  1. Availability of collection in Russian including Soviet, Russian, Eurasian, and patent documentation of national patent offices of CIS countries including EAPO Member-States.
  2. Convenient and easy to use. With the "one-window" principle the user can make a multiaspect patent search in several official languages at the same time both in local DB and external DB of free access via the Internet.
  3. Developed service possibilities of the system. For example, statistical data on search results is displayed for each request, including for each separate index search. The structure of the composed request may be viewed before sending it to the server. The programs of the query analyzer offer further steps if no results were displayed. For each found document hyperlinks to external databases are formed automatically with a possibility to receive a description of the document and additional information about it from different sources. Use of a patent browser and metasearch means do not require knowledge of search systems to work with CD/DVD discs and external DB in the Internet.

Access to EAPATIS

In a free access all kinds of searches (advanced, number, professional) may be conducted in EAPO DB as well as searching by number of a document in other patent DB. The search results are presented in the form of abstract and bibliographical descriptions of patent documents. Services of virtual access to full specifications of patent documents from external sources and search in IPC DB are rendered.

Access on a paid basis is open to all DB of the system in advanced, number and professional modes, as well as metasearch. Front pages and full specifications of Eurasian patents and published Eurasian applications are presented. Services of virtual access to full specifications of documents are available from external sources, subject search in EAPATIS DB using IPC DB, search in IPC DB.

Access on a paid basis will be provided after concluding an agreement on patent and information services on EAPATIS basis.
